The 3rd Annual Purple Ribbon Cancer Ride held on
Feb 5th, 2011 was a huge success.
We had 151 snowmobiles participate. We left
the Boar's Nest in 4 seperate groups. The
weather was perfect for riding and the trails
were awesome. Kudos go out the the
Kingsbury Barnstormer and Hartford Ridge Rider
Groomer Crews.
The trails were marked with special Cancer Ride
signs. We started our journey out on "Early
Detection Highway" and continued up over
Mammogram Mountain. We proceeded through "Colon
Valley" and across "Brain Bridge". Some
groups made their way down the "Chemo Trail" and
ventured through "Radiation Woods"
It was snowing quite hard as we headed over to
The Hartford Tavern. Randy and staff had a nice
sign welcoming the Cancer Riders and provided a
snack table for our riders all afternoon. As we
made our way back to the Boar's Nest down "The
Road to Recovery" we were really enjoying the
ride back toward "Pancreatic Parkway" when it
started to rain.
By the time we made our way back to the Boar's
Nest it was raining hard. Thank you to the
Boar's Nest Staff for another delicious buffet
dinner. A cake beautifully decorated with our
logo was desert. Thank you Jennifer Hoag the
cake was so good it was gone in a matter of
minutes.
After dinner and desert we got the auction
started with the first item...the Pink "Save the
Boobies" shirt..Dave Rosick our fill in
auctioneer wore it with pride for the rest of
the evening. The auction was quite
competative as we proceeded with the remainder
of auction items donated by generous members of
our community. The last item raffled was the
Kayak that was hanging from the ceiling of the
Boar's Nest. Congratulations to the winner
(Gary Monrian). Karen Rosick won the 50/50
drawing and generously donated back to the
cause. Thanks Karen. After the auction Country
Express provided the entertainment. When the
bank took a break we held a couple cool
hoola-hoop contests which got pretty interesting
as we rolled hoola-hoops across the dance floor
and participants were diving through them. A
bit more interesting than the usual hoola-hoop
contest. What a blast.
When all was said and done....we had collected
$8,000 to donate to our
local "Cancer Patient Service
Programs" through the American Cancer Society to
make available "Early dectection Screening" for
all types of cancer to people in our community.
I am living proof that "Early Detection Saves
Lives" and I would like to personnally Thank all
of you that helped make this event such a
success. Because of your generosity together we
can make a difference and save more lives
through early detection screening. Watch the
website for details on the public presentation
of our donation. Date to be announced soon.
